Why we would be better off out of the European Union
Christians should be in the forefront of the campaign to withdraw Britain from the European Union. In 1973, we were told by the Heath government that in joining the Common Market, as is then was, "there is no question of Britain losing essential national sovereignty." We were therefore sold a lie - that we were exchanging one free trade area (EFTA) for another. Forty years on, we are paying a huge price for falling for Heath's deceit. To start with, the costs of our membership of the EU are immense. The booklet below, written by Professor Tim Congdon of UKIP, breaks down the costs into its various components - the direct payments, the costs of regulation, resource misallocation and lost jobs, for example - and concludes that it amounted to £150 billion in 2011. This works out as £5,000 per year per household, and that cost will continue to increase as long as we remain a member of the EU.
While not all that money would be immediately available to the UK economy, putting things in perspective, just the scrapping of our direct payments to the EU, which we could do immediately upon withdrawal, would save us £16.2 billion based on 2011-12 estimates, which would be sufficient to enable the British government to abolish Air Passenger Duty, Insurance Premium Tax, the Landfill Tax, Stamp Duty and the Climate Change levy without any net overall loss of revenue!

Don't believe the "three million jobs" myth!
Membership of the EU also costs British jobs. We were told that three million jobs depend on our membership of the European Union. Why this lie has been allowed to remain unchallenged or so long is a mystery, for the government's own statistics prove that such a claim is complete nonsense. Once again, we can be thankful to Tim Congdon for providing a definitive refutation. The document below, containint two articles whcih originally appeared in Freedom Today, The Freedom Association's quarterly magazine, which I edit, will appear in booklet form shortly, and when this is published, I will replace the link below with a link to the new document.
