No, this isn't a rant - it's straight from the horse's mouth. Ed Miliband has promised that a Labour government will spend more than the Conservatives if elected in 2015, according to a report in the Independent. What? with public spending already higher than it was in the disastrous Brown/Darling binge in 2008-10? you cannot be serious, Mr Millipede!!
Unfortunately, he is. What planet is this man on? It was obedience to the Labour mantra of "tax and spend" that got us into this mess in the first place. Indeed, the one lesson of the Great Recession is that government has got out of control. It is doing too much, spending too much and leaving not just us, today's taxpayers, but our children too, to foot the bill.
Has the Tory Party ever been presented with such a gift? Hard to say, but if they were led by a conviction politician like Lady Thatcher, we would already be counting on a Tory victory in 2015. I just hope there are enough sensible voters out there who understand clearly that our present economic woes are not caused by bankers but by voracious governments. The route to prosperity is the exact opposite of Ed's proposed spending spree with our money: the state must spend less, not more. Red Ed would do well to consider what Lady Thatcher said thirty years ago:- "One of the great debates of our time is about how much of your money should be spent by the State and how much you should keep to spend on your family. Let us never forget this fundamental truth: the State has no source of money other than money which people earn themselves. If the State wishes to spend more it can do so only by borrowing your savings or by taxing you more. It is no good thinking that someone else will pay—that "someone else" is you. There is no such thing as public money; there is only taxpayers' money."
